Leona “Lee” Loyd, 85, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 20, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Leona was born Aug. 11, 1937, in Conroy, the daughter of Elmer and Mathilda (Hunzelman) Martinson. She graduated from Conroy High School, class of 1955. She worked at Amana Refrigeration where she met her husband, Luke. Leona was united in marriage to Luke Loyd on Dec. 6, 1969, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She worked at Aegon/Transamerica for many years until her retirement in 2003. She enjoyed tending to her garden and flowers, watching and feeding birds, traveling and, most of all, spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.
Leona is survived by her husband, Luke; her children, Laura (Andy Rogers) Loyd Rogers and Mike (Katia) Loyd; five grandchildren, Clayton, Selah, Reagan, Caleb and Michael; her brother, Merlyn Martinson; her sister-in-law, Nancy Martinson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Irvin (Marcella) Martinson, Milford Martinson, Norma (Noel) Siems and Joyce (Dwight) Mumm; sisters-in-law, Irene Siems, Sylvia Martinson and Edith Martinson; and sister, Anna Marie, in infancy.
