Esther LeClere, 81, of Monticello, died Thursday, March 16, 2023, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. April 8, at the Hopkinton Community Center. Goettsch Funeral Home has taken Esther and her family into their care. Surviving is her husband, Kenneth “Barney” LeClere; her children, Kenneth LeClere, Jodi Davis, Donna LeClere, Mark (Cindy) LeClere and Scott (Mary) LeClere; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and her sister, Zetta LeClere.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, David Von Stein; a son, Gregory; and her brother, Sonney Goodreau.
Esther Irene Goodreau was born April 28, 1941, in Linn County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Elmer and Beulah Barner, Goodreau. Esther graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. She married Kenneth (Barney) LeClere on June 10, 1959. The couple lived in Montana and North Dakota while Barney was in the Air Force. They later lived in Cedar Rapids and Hopkinton before making their home in Monticello. Esther was a homemaker and worked for Lux Farms. She loved to go dancing whenever she could.
