I 'm your at-large city council member and I am running for re-election. I am a husband and father of three kids, ages 9, 7 and 4. I also own Adamson Financial Planning, a business I started in Marion 13 years ago. My wife and I are Iowa natives. I moved to the area in 1996 and have lived in Marion since 1999 when I bought my first home.
My priorities are similar to yours when it comes to what I want from the city. I want a nice place to live. Safe. With good schools and plenty of things to keep my family busy. We are partial to the library, the Thomas Park splash pad, and the parks where my kids play sports. Whether you're retired or still working like I am, we still expect to have all this at a fair price.
You have voted for me twice before to represent you on City Council (I also served two years on the Planning and Zoning Commission). Over the past 10 years, I partnered with citizens, city staff, business owners, private developers and various groups to plan a strategy to grow our community. The plan for growth was to help Marion businesses expand and to bring in new businesses. We did this to add jobs and to create more commercial property taxes, which in turn allows us to afford “nice, safe and fun.” During my service, we have doubled the value of property in Marion to $1.3 billion. Just in the last two years, we've had nearly $100 million of private development projects begin, and we have nearly completed our biggest goal: Finding a good home in Marion for a longtime family business: Marion Iron.
Progress like this doesn't happen by accident. Marion's can-do attitude is contagious. Unfortunately, the other three candidates listed on the ballot have been inoculated from this positive outlook, and prefer wearing blinders that keep them from seeing our bright future. Join me in shaping Marion's growth boom that will shape our future. Write in my name, Craig Adamson, as your Marion City Council at-large candidate, in Tuesday's election.
