Loretta M. Patterson, 99, of Iowa City, passed away on Feb. 23, 2023, at Crestview Care Center in West Branch, Iowa.
Loretta was born on Sept. 2, 1923, in North Liberty, Iowa, to Earl and Marguerite (Miller) Anderson. She graduated from City High School, along with her twin sister Lorna, in 1942. She then graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. On July 29, 1946, Loretta married Thomas Patterson at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. The couple raised their four children in the home they built on Wilson Street and enjoyed nearly 48 years of marriage before his death in 1994.
Loretta is survived by her children, Thomas (Diana) Patterson, Sarah Clime and Emily Clark; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; as well as her sister-in-law, Marie Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Thomas; son, Stephen; brothers, Joseph and John; and her sisters, Joyce Dobson, Portia Anderson and Lorna Negus.
A rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will follow from 4 to 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Interment will immediately follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Mercy Hospital Alumni or Care Initiatives Hospice Cedar Rapids.
