Colleen Christina Maynard, 85, passed away in the loving care of her family on Saturday, March 4, 2023, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Urbana with Father Jim Brokman officiating. A rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at the church, Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, also at the church. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Urbana.
Colleen was born April 1, 1937, in Urbana, the daughter of Catherine Smith. She attended Urbana High School and graduated in 1955. Following graduation Colleen attended the University of Iowa, focusing on Physical Education. She was united in marriage to Owen Maynard on Nov. 18, 1961, at St. Mary’s Spencer Grove.
Colleen and husband Owen farmed together. Colleen, along with her Uncle Bob, owned the Anabru Inn in Urbana. She also was a mail carrier in Vinton for many years. Colleen loved the simple pleasures in life; her faith and her family and friends came first and foremost. She also enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, playing cards, singing and playing music, gambling, politics, spending time with family at their cabin in Hackensack, Minn., and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
She is survived by her children, Matt (Becky) Maynard, Mike (Ericka) Maynard, Bob (Chris) Maynard, and Kelly (Steve) Galvan; grandchildren, Dustin (Candi), Casey, Mitch (Beth), Chance, Jameson, Jonathan, Clay, Quentin (Minami), Ava, and Liv; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Cash, Quincy, Tyson, Myla, and Mei.
Colleen was preceded in death by her mother Catherine, and her husband Owen in 2019.
