Judith “Ann” Gruber, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on March 2, 2023, at The Views of Marion. In agreement with Ann’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Ann was born on April 17, 1941, in Sterling Ill., daughter of Clayton R. and June H. (Higley) Schuneman. She worked 10 years as an itinerant vision teacher in Charleston, S.C., then went on to work for the Vinton School for the visually impaired and pre-school for the Davenport School District in Iowa. Ann was a member of the Peoples Unitarian Universalis Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She also enjoyed making dolls, doing crossword puzzles, listening to classical music and participating in book clubs. She particularly loved writing letters corresponding to family and friends. Ann will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ann is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Ian Ross James of Amherst, Mass.; daughter, Catherine “Katy” James (Mark) De Porter of Cedar Rapids; and three grandchildren, Lauren Gardner, Tyler Hilton and Waveland Sheffield James.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Tom Schuneman; and granddaughter, Jet James.
