Ruth Majerus died on Feb. 24, 2023. She was 101 years old. An evening visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 10, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A visitation will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 11, at St. Joseph church in Marion, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Oak Shade cemetery in Marion.
Born and raised on the family farm in southwest Iowa, Ruth was a long-time resident of Cedar Rapids. She was a teacher, parent and active volunteer at church, school and the League of Women voters, and co-founder of the Heralders Catholic singles group. She traveled the world extensively in her later years, visiting five of the seven continents with her husband.
Ruth was preceded in death by her three older siblings; and by her husband, Bruce, to whom she was married for 65 happy years.
She is survived by her four children, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Ruth will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, dedicated mother and adored grandmother; she had a remarkable memory, a kind word for everyone, and a poem, song or story for almost every occasion. Her wisdom, strength, intelligence and unfailing generosity inspired us all.
