Edna Mae Pesek, 97, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids after a short illness.
Funeral service: 10 a.m. Thursday, March 2, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, with The Rev. Nick March officiating. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 9 a.m. at the church. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at Teahen Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Memorials to the family in Edna’s memory will be directed to various charities.
Edna Mae McCune was born on Oct. 2, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Daniel and Della (Butler) McCune. She graduated from St. Wenceslaus High School and then began working at Witwer Grocer Co. as a bookkeeper. On Aug. 12, 1950, she married Glenn Charles Pesek at St. Ludmila Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, and to this union six children were born.
Edna was a charter member of St. Jude Catholic Church and worked as the church secretary for 24 years until her retirement. Edna and her husband, Glenn, were involved with the St. Jude Sweet Corn Festival from its inception. Edna's faith was an important part of her life.
Edna became a lifelong Cubs fan when she started listening to their games on the radio with her father. She never thought she would live long enough to see them win the World Series! She also enjoyed visiting the casinos, going to movies and reading. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Edna is survived by her children, Connie (Paul) Buckley, Larry (Diana) Pesek, Ken Pesek, Penny Pesek, Nancy (Randy) Malloy and Cheryl (Mike) McNeal; grandchildren, Brian (Rosa) Buckley, Matt (Christal) Buckley, Jeff (Emily) Buckley, Lindsay (Matt) Sitter, Erin (Wade) Shelton, David (Ashley) Malloy, Liz Malloy (Eric), Daniel (Fayth) Malloy, Sara Lutheran, Mike McNeal and Sam McNeal (Ashley); great-grandchildren, Zach, Ian, Richard, Isabel, Julia, Emma, Madrox, Nolan, Abby, Anna, Bailey, Weston, Aurora, Sidney, Lily, Brookelynn, Sloane, Alden, Everett, Raelan, Niall, Kylie, Aaron and Cody; sisters, Helen Gibbs and Teresa Keister; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; her parents; siblings, Dan McCune, Bob McCune, Dick McCune, Leo McCune and Mary McCune; and grandson, Kyle Joseph Malloy.
She was a loving, generous and caring person who will be greatly missed.
