Feb. 27, 2023 12:55 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS -- A Cedar Rapids man was arrested last week in relation to a shots fired incident that happened in August, according to a news release from the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
James Kellup Jr., 20, is charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit a forcible felony.
According to a criminal complaint, a victim identified Kellup as the driver of a bronze SUV that was driving alongside another vehicle on Interstate 380 near H Avenue on Aug. 24 when a passenger leaned out the window of Kellup’s vehicle and shot at the other vehicle. No injuries were reported.
Police were called to the scene shortly after 5 p.m. and found a shell casing that matched a shell casing found at a different shots fired scene, where Kellup was believed to have been. Data on Kellup’s cellphone also showed it was in the area around the time of the shooting, the complaint states.
Cedar Rapids Police said that the case is still under investigation, but would not confirm whether additional arrests are expected.
A warrant for Kellup’s arrest was issued on Feb. 7, and he was arrested Thursday. He’s currently being held in the Linn County Correctional Center on a $30,000 bond.
