Richard “Rich” Smejkal, 70, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went to heaven on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, after a long battle with various health issues. He was a quiet soul with a sweet smile who loved to work on electronics and try to fix them. There will be no formal service. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Rich was born in Crete, Neb., on Sept. 11, 1952, the youngest of three children. After graduation from high school, he attended Southeast Technical College in Milford, Neb. After working in York, Neb., he eventually moved to Cedar Rapids where he worked for Rockwell Collins for 32 years.
He is survived by one brother, Ken (Donna) Smejkal of Hiawatha, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Marian Smejkal; and a sister, RoseMary Deprez.
Many thanks to all who cared for Rich the last few months of his life.
