John Bails, 80, of Lowden, passed away from a courageous battle with cancer in his home. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Stanwood Cemetery, Stanwood. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held later this Spring. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre is caring for John and his family.
John was born Oct. 27, 1942, to John Ray and Barbara Irene (Treichler) Bails in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Stanwood High School. He also performed in the Joie Chitwood Thrill Show. John worked at Cherry Burrell for over 30 years, and later retired from Cedar Rapids Truck Country. He enjoyed fishing, telling jokes, watching NASCAR and, most of all, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; his children, Richard Bails (Kris Norris) and Chris Bails (Tony Gonzalez); three grandchildren, Elena, Dylan and Carter; his siblings, Robert Bails of Springville, Donald (Diane) Bails of Norway, Charles “Chuck” (Laurie) Bails of Mount Vernon, Paul (Pam) Bails of Papilion, Neb., Mary Ellen Knupp of Vinton, Linda Nemecek of Greentown, Ind., Nancy (L.A.) Forrest of North Liberty, Margaret (Ronnie) Bails-Downs of Creedmoor, N.C., Betty (Don) Conkel of Cedar Rapids and June (Loren) Walshire of Onaga, Kan.; his nieces and nephews; and best friend Ed Emerson.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim, Richard and William Bails; sisters, Sarah Menzer and Susan Voss; sister-in-law, Mollie Bails; brother-in-law, Byron Knupp; nieces, Karen Hildebrand and Marcia Krenz; and his grandson, Antonio Gonzalez.
