Michael Dean Prouty, 71, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2023. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at the funeral home.
Michael was born Oct. 6, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Daniel and Marilyn (Johnson) Prouty. He graduated from Marion High School, Class of 1969. Michael was united in marriage to Barbara Graves in 1972; the couple later divorced but always remained friends. He worked as a union pipefitter for over 40 years. Michael was a member of Local 125 Plumbers and Pipefitters.
Michael loved slot car racing and won many trophies. He enjoyed fixing things and tinkering around in the garage, restoring his favorite 1970 GMC pickup; Michael loved taking it to shows, doing burnouts, and cruising the avenue. Michael was goofy all the time, adventurous, and loved making people laugh with his jokes and impressions. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, camping, hill climbing, and riding his motorcycle “Suzie” around town. Years ago, Michael welded stainless urns for his daughters for his final resting place. Always thinking ahead and not wanting his daughters to worry.
Survivors include his daughters, Kristin Prouty, Amy (Jesse) Young, and Jodie (Jason) Houghtaling; grandchildren, Kimberlin, Nathan, Haley, Dakota, Hunter, Kindra (Trid), Morgan (Cadin), Jaden, and Emma; great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Ellie, and two on the way; and siblings, Jane (Douglas), Becky, Kathy (Rod), Mel, Mary, Tom (Carla), Mark, Jeff, and Joe (Rhonda).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Marilyn Prouty; and his brother and best pal, Steve Prouty.
Memorials may be directed to his three daughters.
