Otho H. McDonald Jr., 85, of Columbus Junction, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, at Lantern Park Specialty Care in Coralville.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Columbus Junction. Burial will be at the Columbus City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Otho. Otho was born Aug. 18, 1937, in Olin, Iowa, the son of Otho and Mildred (Cook) McDonald. He was united in marriage to Eileen Marie Cline on Feb. 3, 1957, in Aledo, Ill.
He worked for Rath for 24 years, Prime Mover for 18 years and the University of Iowa Hospitals for 10 years. Otho enjoyed camping, stock car racing and auctioneering.
Otho will be deeply missed by his son, Heath (Cindy) McDonald of Lone Tree; daughter, Sheila (Kenny) Eckrich of Iowa City; grandchildren, Tyler (Nicole) McDonald, Emilee McDonald (Ethan), Kylee McDonald (Jesse), Jackie McDonald, Brad (Kyrye) McDonald, Eric (Kylie) McDonald, Austin McDonald-Snakenberg (Courtney), Sommer (John) Lemley, Jessica Montoya, Missy (Lucas) Velasquez, and Marc Katzenburger; stepgrandchildren, Dawn (Jeremy) Davies, Amanda (Sean) Crane, and Ryan (Krissy) Charbon; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Steve “Butch” McDonald of Central City, Carolyn (LaVerne) Gibbs of Cedar Rapids, and Sharon (Bryce) Smith) of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eileen, in 2007; and his son, Layton, in 2021.
