CEDAR RAPIDS — Dyersville Beckman’s first season in the River Valley Conference resulted in a North Division championship. And now a Coach of the Year honor and a unanimous first-team all-division player honor.
Beckman’s Michael Molony has been named North Division Coach of the Year in boys’ basketball, the conference announced Friday. He has guided the Blazers to a 15-6 overall record going into their Class 2A district game Friday night at home against Denver.
Senior forward Padraig Gallagher is the unanimous first-team player. He is averaging 22 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
The terrific guard-forward duo of Tate Petersen and Preston Ries of Monticello join Gallagher as unanimous first-teamers. Ries led the division with a scoring average of 24.3 points and rebound average of 10.4, while Petersen led the division in assists per game (5.5).
Bellevue’s Jensen Wedeking, Cascade’s Jackson Lieurance and Maquoketa’s Tye Hardin were other unanimous first-team picks, with Lieurance just a sophomore. Zane Witt of Camanche and Robert Paulsen of Bellevue join those six on the first team.
Wilton’s Robert Klunder is the RVC South Division Coach of the Year. His Beavers won the division.
Wilton senior Caden Kirkman, Durant senior Nolan DeLong and West Branch junior Holden Arnaman are first-team players of the unanimous-pick variety.
