Eleanor Anna Marie Suckow, a resident at Emery Place, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 10, 2023. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Eleanor was born to Elmer Sr. and Emma Hessenius in Vinton, on July 1, 1931. She worked at the Cedar Rapids Children’s Home. Eleanor was united in marriage to Willis Suckow on Aug. 16, 1953, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. She was a homemaker. Family was her top priority, she loved family get-togethers and spoiling her grandchildren. She enjoyed embroidery, sewing, gardening, following the Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones and, most of all, her cat Sassy. She was a member of First Lutheran Church for 67 years.
Surviving are her four children, Sharon (Ed) Zilka, Larry (Julianne), Gary (Sherrie), all of Cedar Rapids and Barbara (Leroy) Wittenburg of Springville, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Angela Zilka, Michelle (Brandon) Robbs, Christy Zilka, Rachel (Jordan) Richardson, Reece Suckow and fiancee, Julie Cox, Amanda Wittenburg, Julie (John) Bowers, Michael (Kaitlyn) Wittenburg and Nathan Wittenburg and fiancee, Emmalyn Foster; eight great-grandchildren, Liberty, Addison, and Gabriella Robbs, Taylen Suckow, Josephine Wittenburg, Mia, Gina and Ella Bowers; also surviving is one sister, Eveyln Buol of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willis; infant brother, Elmo; brothers, Elmer Jr. and Eldon; and one sister, Esther.
Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
