James William Grimm, 94, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living at Independence. Visitation will be from 10 to11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, Cedar Rapids. Celebration of Life service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Brosh Chapel. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery.
James was born on June 7, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Edgar and Margaret (Koza) Grimm. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Wilson High School. James was united in marriage to Frances A. Waterhouse on Oct. 8, 1949, at First Lutheran Church. Jim and Frances had two children Steve and Debra. Upon retiring from Wilson/Farmstead, he and Frances retired to Florida. In 2010, Jim returned to Iowa to be with family. Jim loved seeing his family, fishing, crafting with his wife, listening to old time western music and watching westerns.
James is survived by his daughter, Debra (Harlan) Hartman; sister, Ruby (Robert) Warren; eight grandchildren, Shon (Beth) Grimm, Matt (Lisa) Grimm, Kara (Josh) Burkhart, Sarah (Derek) Lounsberry, Lee (Ann) Hartman, Jeff (Misty) Grimm, Scott Grimm and James R. (Tammy) Grimm; 18 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; as well as his cousins, a niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances; son, Steve; grandson, Bryce; stepfather, Forrest Davis; infant sister, Shirley; and brother-in-law, Charles (Mary) Waterhouse.
