Donald “Bud” Lahr, 87, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, at The Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Visitation for Bud will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, with a wake from 9 until 10:15 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester with Reverend Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial with military rites will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Bud was born on Aug. 25, 1935, in Raymond, Iowa, the son of Peter and Irene (Braun) Lahr. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Bud enjoyed working out on the farm, driving trucks and was a great mechanic. Bud was always working on his trucks to make sure they were in top condition, where he owned and operated Bud Lahr Trucking. Bud was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. He enjoyed driving around the country to see what was going on and was a people watcher, and you could find him working on jigsaw puzzles. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Bud is survived by his three sons, Vaughn (Karen Osterkamp) Lahr of Edgewood, Iowa, Verlynn Lahr and Greg (Linda) Lahr, both of Manchester; daughter, Michelle Lukan of Delaware, Iowa; four grandchildren, Maddie and Garrett Lahr, Brittany and James Wright; one brother, LaVern “Tuff” (Mary) Lahr of Marion, Iowa; several brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Irene Lahr; seven sisters, Valene Schnieders, Betty Lahr, Mary Ann Digmann, Joan Heyer, Patricia Pierce, Theresa Lahr, Linda McDowell; and one brother, Charles Lahr.
Memorials may be directed to the family to benefit several charities to be determined later.
