Edward J. Walter, 98 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023. A Rosary will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, with a visitation to follow until 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, Cedar Rapids. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
A lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, Edward attended St. Patrick’s school from elementary through high school. He served in World War II as a member of the 92nd Bombardment Group. As a B-17 flight engineer, he flew 17 missions. Edward was Vice President of the Cedar Rapids Block Company for most of his career.
He was a humble man, dedicated to his family and friends. A man of strong faith, he was a founding trustee of St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Bernadine K. Walter; and his sister, Dorothy Lintz. He is survived by his sons, Patrick Walter and Mark Walter (Kim); daughters, Barbara Colton (Sabin) and Mary Walter (Jeff); grandchildren, Nicole Walter, Jill Beutow (Jeremy); Jessica Colton; Sabin Colton and Samantha Walter; great-grandchildren, Taylor Walter, Miley and Liam Beutow; nephew, John Lintz; as well as many cousins and friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Manish Suneja for his many years of extraordinary medical care and friendship. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edward J. Walter Memorial Fund details of which will be available on the Cedar Memorial website (cedarmemorial.com).
