Dick Healy, 75, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with visitation to begin at noon at the funeral home. A livestream of the service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Dick, under “photos and videos,” starting at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31.
Dick was born July 1, 1947, in Farley, Iowa, the son of Emmett and Elizabeth (O’Conner) Healy. He graduated from St. Joseph High School and continued his education at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Dick honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1966-68. On July 13, 1985, Dick was united in marriage to Maria Kay Orlich in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Options of Linn County for 31 years and retired in 2016.
Dick was a Chicago Cubs fan that lived in a house divided between Iowa State and University of Iowa. He rode and completed RAGBRAI nearly 20 times. His last completed RAGBRAI was a milestone at 70 years old. Dick was a wonderful caregiver to his wife, Maria. He was loved dearly. He and his sense of humor and laugh will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his wife, Maria Orlich-Healy of Cedar Rapids; daughters, Katie Healy and Connor (Luis) Healy, both of Chicago, Ill.; brother, Patrick (Nancy) Healy of Sun City West, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Chris Benson of Chicago; nephews, Ryan Healy of St. Petersburg, Fla., Stephen (Miya) Hutchins of Santee, Calif., Jason (Melissa) Wallace of Cedar Rapids, Leon (Aaron) Barker-O’Riley of Cedar Rapids and Ben Neal of Cedar Rapids; nieces, Liza (Robert) Garza and Patty Morales of Houston, Texas, Stephanie Guiles of Easton, Md., and Kayleigh Murphy of Des Moines, Iowa; and sisters-in-law, Barbara (Russ) Neal of Mount Vernon, Iowa, and Dessa (Jim) Hutchins of Sun Lakes, Ariz.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Elizabeth; brothers, Mike and Ed; and sisters, Betty and Barbara (Antonio).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial fund to be established.
