Kendall R. Heppe, 72, of Independence, Iowa, passed away at his home in Independence, on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023.
Kendall was born on July 29, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Robert H. and Virginia (Harper) Heppe. He was a 1968 graduate of George Washington High School in Cedar Rapids and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Utah State University in Salt Lake City, Utah. Kendall moved back to Iowa after college and made his home in Amana, Iowa. There he worked for several years at the Amana Refrigeration Company and made many friends there. In 1996, he moved to Independence and stared working for Exide Technologies in Manchester. In 2017, he retired and enjoyed his life, but he also enjoyed staying busy. He soon went back to work and worked with his brother in Cedar Rapids.
Over the years, it was easy for Kendall to make many friends, many of them shared a passion for sports. For many years, he was a member of pool and bowling leagues in Independence. His true passion was golf and wasn’t afraid to play golf with anyone. He was an avid reader and kept up on current events, which allowed him to carry a conversation with anyone.
He loved life and enjoyed having fun. He held his friends in high regard and their friendship meant the world to him. More than we could ever comprehend.
Kendall is survived by his siblings, Kristine Helen Miller, Altadena, Calif., Karl Harper Heppe, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kyle Wayne Heppe, Reno, Nev., and Karol Virginia Heppe, Vallejo, Calif.; his nieces and nephews, Debra Heppe, Jason Miller, Robert (Danielle) Miller, Elizabeth Miller and Heather Hoy; and a great-niece and great-nephew, Layla and Jayden Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Virginia Heppe; and a brother-in-law, Willie Miller.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
