Shirley Kay Hoffner, 86, of Clarence, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Clarence, with the Rev. Matt Schneider-Adams officiating. Burial will follow at the Clarence Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Shirley was born on March 8, 1936, to William and Wilhelmina (Brinkman) Dettman in rural Cedar County, Iowa. She married Robert Hoffner on Nov. 24, 1956, in Wheatland. He passed away in 1993.
Shirley was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since she was 16 and also served as a past president. She was a member of St. John’s UCC where she also volunteered a lot of her time. She loved baking, and enjoyed delivering cookies to the local nursing homes. Shirley proudly attended all of her grandson’s performances and dearly loved her cats.
She is survived by her son, Tom (Melanie) of Central City; grandson, Alex; and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Emily; and siblings, Earl, Ruth, Betty, William C., Lillian and Alice.
