Robert E. Grimm
Robert E. Grimm
Santa Fe, N.M.
Cedar Rapids native and longtime Santa Fe, N.M., resident Robert "Bob" E. Grimm, 73, crossed over on Jan. 12, 2023, after a lingering illness.
Bob was born to Harold and Geraldine Weaver Grimm in 1949. He was named after his uncle who was killed in combat in France in 1945. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 29 and a lifetime member of the Itinerant Cycle Club. Bob was a graduate of Jefferson High Class of '67 and Iowa State University Class of '71. As a young man, he was married to Cedar Rapids native Gail Watts for 10 years. In 1988, he married Katharine J. Lee in Santa Fe, where he established and operated a business until he retired.
Bob was a lover of music, both as a performer and listener; he played saxophone in school bands and community bands in Cedar Rapids and in New Mexico. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, camping, canoeing, cycling, sailing and fishing. He enjoyed cooking and fine food, and maintained his university interest in history and philosophy throughout his life. He was much appreciated for his sense of humor and playful manner. Robert Grimm was a lifelong liberal Democrat and proud of it.
Left to celebrate his life and to mourn his passing are Katharine J. Lee, his wife of 34 years; his siblings, Jackie Svetly, Sue Thomas, Rick Grimm, Joni Perry and their families; his aunt and uncle, Gladys and Howard Grimm; old scouts of Troop 29; his Itinerant brothers; and friends in Santa Fe and Cedar Rapids.
A private celebration of Robert Grimm's life will be held at a future date.
