Dorothy M. Johnson, 92, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2023, at The Views in Marion. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, where a visitation will be held one hour prior. Inurnment will follow the service at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Dorothy was born on March 23, 1930, in Paris, Iowa, the daughter of Rex and Hester (Hall) Ramsey. She was a 1948 graduate of Center Point High School, where she played basketball, and her team went to the state tournament. On July 17, 1949, Dorothy was united in marriage to Richard G. Johnson. To this union, three children were born, Dianne, Denise, and Dave. Dorothy worked for Collins Radio, and later worked as an office manager at Photo Pro. She was a former member of First Lutheran Church and an active member of Waltonian Archery Ladies Auxiliary. Dorothy loved to cook and was amazing at it. She loved to listen to the “Open Line” recipe show on WMT Radio and would frequently call in. Dorothy volunteered at Garfield Elementary School as one of the picture ladies. She loved songbirds and enjoyed feeding them. Dorothy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Dorothy is survived and lovingly remembered by her three children, Dianne Noah of Central City, Denise (Chad) Todd of Marion and Dave (Susan) Johnson of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Matthew (Erika) Berry, Mike Todd, Carl (Jennifer) Todd and Nicole (Brian) Wiles; and two step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Johnson, on Dec. 30, 1986; son-in-law, Jerry Noah; and brother, Richard “Dick” Ramsey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the History Center at 800 Second Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
