Richard “Dick” Lewis Woods, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at Veritas Church with visitation preceding from 9 to 11 a.m. and officiated by George Farber. Lunch will be served at Veritas Church following the memorial service. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Dick was born Aug. 2, 1940, to Lewis and Helen (Tanner) Woods in a farmhouse near Cumberland, Iowa. Soon thereafter, they moved to a farm south of Anita, Iowa, where Dick grew up. At 12 years old Dick learned that that he needed God’s forgiveness and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He graduated from Anita Public Schools in 1958, attended Kansas University in 1959, and graduated from the American Institute of Business in Computer Science in 1960.
Dick enjoyed working at several jobs starting with Collins Radio Company – all within the computer industry. Dick and Judy Breitsprecher of Arlington, Iowa, were united in marriage on June 25, 1961, in Manchester, Iowa. Dick is survived by his wife, Judy, a son, Bart (Jenny) Woods, a daughter, Kim (Kevin) Steele, an honorary daughter, Sorayda (Dan) Hollinger, six grandchildren, Ben Woods, Emily (Tyler) Huckfelt, Jacob Steele, Caleb Woods, Isabelle Steele, and Keaton Woods, and two great-grand-children, Anderson and Ellis Huckfelt. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Helen Lou Westphal, and brothers-in-law, Art Westphal and Wayne Sherman.
