James “Jim” Gordon Arneal, Jr., 65, formerly of Robins, Iowa, passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City, Mo., where he resided in retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Gordon Arneal Sr. and Hazel “Jane” Hinkel Arneal.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children: son, Jordan (Jackie) Arneal and grandson Kai of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Sarah (Kevin Tomita) Arneal of Alameda, Calif.; son, Cameron Arneal and grandson Owen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brother, Raymond (Ardith) Arneal and their children, among many other friends and loved ones.
Jim was a proud veteran of the United States Navy where he served six years on the USS Sturgeon and was presented with numerous awards and recognitions for his dedicated service. He went on to spend his professional career in the nuclear power industry and was dedicated to serving his community through leadership in the Robins City Council, and through active involvement in his children's academic and extracurricular endeavors. Among his notable titles of mayor, scout leader, friend, boss, and petty officer, he was most joyfully committed to his role as Dad and Papa. Considered a perfectionist and entertainer by many, his laugh and charisma will always be remembered by the countless communities to which he belonged.
Jim will lay to final rest with his parents at Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary, La. A celebration of life for Jim will be held at a later date in Iowa. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Veterans Affairs.
