The Rev. Dr. Joe Milton Jones, 83, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022, at his home in Marion. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion with inurnment to follow at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Joe was born on May 23, 1939, in Vancouver, Wash., the son of James and Mary (Peppard) Jones. He earned several degrees including bachelor's degrees of math and German from the University of Louisville, master's degree in theology from Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Ky., and a Ph.D. from Erskine College in South Carolina. On Aug. 26, 1960, Joe was united in marriage to Judith Irwin in Eastwood, Ky. He served several churches across the country, remaining close with many families of parishes he has served. Joe was involved in many organizations such as the Masonic Lodge, Volunteer Firefighting, Lions & Kiwanis Club, and served as Chaplain for various organizations. He enjoyed playing bridge, and logic and jigsaw puzzles, many of his jigsaws were framed and given to family members and friends. Joe was an avid sports fan especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. Joe made a point to get involved in any community he served in. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Joe is survived and lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Jennifer (Terry) Felker of Marion, Jacquelyn Jones of Marion and Judith (Dennis) Schumacher of Ladson, S.C.; grandchildren, Matthew (Nikki) Felker, Taylor Felker and Amanda and Emily Schumacher; great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Brody and Jackson Felker; sister, Rebecca Brunetti of Chicago, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith; parents; and brothers, Jim and Robert Jones.
Memorials in Joe’s memory may be directed to Mercy Hospital’s Family Caregivers Center (Men’s Caregiver Coffee Group).
