Larry William Hohmann, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, at ManorCare in Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Graveside Service: 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Larry was born Dec. 2, 1943, in Strawberry Point, Iowa, the son of William and Vanita (McDowell). He married Marilyn Jean Hittie on Aug. 22, 1970. She later passed away on Sept. 30, 1988. Larry served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1963-66 during the Vietnam War, earning several medals: Armed Forces Expedition Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Marksman (Rifle) Medal. He was also a proud member of the American Legion. Larry worked for Cryovac for 34 years and on nights and weekends he owned and operated his hauling business. He had a passion for painting and motorcycles. You could find him working free hand on a painting or jumping on his Gold Wing just to get out and ride. Larry loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with his family every weekend. Above all, he was a proud family man. Larry was a doting and loving grandfather. He relished the moments spent with his family during holidays and he never forgot a birthday. Larry will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his children, Lisa Hohmann (Scott Wirth) and Kenneth Hohmann; grandchildren, Colton and Savannah Wirth; sister, Carol (Jim) Strawn; and many nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Hohmann; parents, Bill and Irene; seven siblings; and son, Robert Allen Hittie.
