Patricia “Pat” Kay Nolan, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Pat was born on Nov.10, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Bessie (Callahan) Scott and her stepfather, Alfred Scott. Pat worked as a waitress, housekeeper and in packaging. Throughout the years, she was employed at St. Luke’s Hospital, Mount Rose Hotel and CBC Packaging. Pat loved to go dancing and create a ruckus in her younger years with her girlfriends. She was a one-of-a-kind free spirit and loved Harley's and riding on the back of motorcycles.
Pat was a devoted catholic, she was known for her kindness and compassion and seen as “grandma” to hundreds of kids. She enjoyed karaoke, family events and talking to anyone who wanted to hear a great story. Spending time with her great-grandchildren was one of her greatest joys late in life. She adored her children and appreciated all the time, love, care they provided. One thing remained true with Grandma Pat, if you needed anything, she would welcome you with open arms.
She is survived by her four children, Jack C. Barger and Joe Barger, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Nick Brummer of Texas and Cindy Butterfield of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Lucas (Taylor) McMurrin, Jimmy (Jenny) Bethel, Hunter Bechtel, Jacob Gerr, Heather Kimpton, Andrew, James, Eden, Mason and Carson Berger; great-grandchildren, Lillian McMurrin, Lukey McMurrin, soon to be Maddie McMurrin; and many loving extended family members and friend.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jimmy Callahan; daughter, Brenda Schueler; and a grandson, Derek Butterfield.
