Norman Lewis Stoner, 87, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, surrounded by family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Lensing Oak Hill Funeral Service in Coralville. Military honors followed by a prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Pastor Mark Comer will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Friends of the Animal Center Foundation.
Norman was born on March 29, 1935, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Lewis and Velma (Stanford) Stoner. He served in the U.S. Army. On Nov. 2, 1991, Norman married Ella Gottman in Iowa City.
Norman was a truck driver with Handimart for many years, retiring in 2000.
He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bear fan. He enjoyed NASCAR races and loved animals.
Norman is survived by his wife, Ella; children, Kevin (Ardith) Stoner of North Liberty, Brian (Laura) Stoner of Williamsburg and Melissa Stoner (William Pratt); grandchildren, Matthew, Jeremy and Christopher; great-grandchildren, Jameson, Meela and Allyn; step-children, Robert (Joan) Knoop, Linda (Robert) Cox and Karen Knoop, and Lora (Eric) Haberer; step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Dan Stoner of Independence, Connie (Craig) Klinefelter of Reinbeck and Wesley Stoner of Appleton, Wis.; brothers and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Sheryl and Michele; his siblings, Shirley, Verna, Dwight, Darwin, Duane “Mike,” Lloyd and Irving; and his previous spouse, Geraldine.
