Waverly-Shell Rock will officially leave Northeast Iowa Conference
School wil depart NEIC following 2023-24 school year

Dec. 17, 2022 3:27 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - The Northeast Iowa Conference has announced Waverly-Shell Rock will officially leave the league after the 2023-24 school year.
Representatives of NEIC schools recently met with Dr. Anne Lebo, the director of the state’s Board of Education, as well as mediators, Iowa High School Athletic Association Executive Director Tom Keating and Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union Executive Director Jean Berger in an attempt to resolve an issue in which the five other Northeast Iowa Conference members (Charles City, Waukon, Decorah, Crestwood and New Hampton) voted to expel W-SR from the league.
Waverly-Shell Rock’s enrollment is significantly higher than the rest of the conference. W-SR has applied for membership to other leagues, which has been turned down.
The school has agreed not to ask for an extension to NEIC membership after 2023-24. Other than conference championship events, any potential new member to the conference would not be required to play Waverly-Shell Rock in any sport.
