Bruce Richard Chadima, 68, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022.
Bruce - A.K.A. “The Governor of Funk” (i.e., The Gov), has been a pillar of the music community in Eastern Iowa for over 50 years. He’s been the drummer for Fresh Start, Mean Street and the Hell Horns, Blues Crew, Dr. Feelgood and Flock of Funk. He entertained people of all ages with his musicianship and his funny antics on stage and off. He made several musical recordings during his band career, including a CD of the humorous Mr. Grinch song.
His furniture business “Chadima Furniture” was known throughout the area as the premiere place to get the best quality refinished or rebuilt woodwork. A masterful woodworker, he taught his craft at Kirkwood Community College for a few years and produced a national conference held in Cedar Rapids and a handbook for kitchen cabinet refacing.
Known for his love of animals, camping, and funky music, Bruce will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his deep voice, his tireless work ethic and his big heart.
Bruce is survived by his dear friend, June Marsh; his son, Bryan (Rhonda) Chadima; his sister, Kathryn Chadima; and his mother, Helen Chadima.
His father, Richard Chadima, preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life will be held this Sunday at 2 p.m. at Parlor City in New Bo, Cedar Rapids.
