Joyce L. (McShane) Davie, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Vicki Engelmann officiating. Inurnment will take place a Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City at a later date.
Joyce was born on July 19, 1938, in Central City, the daughter of Wilbur and Opal (Brown) Drexler. She was a 1960 graduate of Central City High School. Joyce was united in marriage to Larry Holsinger, on Aug. 11, 1957, he preceded her in death in 1969. She was united in marriage to Orville McShane on Dec. 4, 1970, he preceded her in death in 1996. Joyce was united in marriage to Floyd Davie on May 7, 2000. She farmed with her husband, Orville, for 26 years, while working as a ski instructor at Sundown Mountain in Dubuque, Iowa. Joyce loved teaching children to ski and was recognized as ski instructor of the year. She was a member of the United Church of Christ. Joyce loved cooking, jigsaw puzzles, Hawkeyes basketball, yard work and spending time with grandchildren. She was a very active, hardworking person who never stopped moving in her life. Joyce will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Joyce is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Floyd Davie; two daughters, Cindy (Todd) Lafler of Central City and Christy (Robert) Laake of Omaha, Neb.; one son, Joe Holsinger; four grandchildren, Danielle (Alyssa) Hilby, Cassi Holsinger, Madison Laake and Christopher Laake; two great-grandchildren, Brayzie Piegle and Carter Hilby; stepson, Vern McShane of Central City; and stepdaughter, Sarah Lawrence.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands.
