Geraldine “Geri” Marie Lanning, 95, of Toddville, Iowa, passed away into the arms of Jesus, on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, at the Woodlands in Meth-Wick Community.
The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. with a service to follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Tim DeVries officiating, at Toddville Free Methodist Church on Friday, Dec. 16. A livestream of the service may be accessed at youtu.be/XOihKWjMukY. Burial will take place at the Lafayette Cemetery in rural Alburnett, Iowa.
Geraldine was born on Oct. 10, 1927, to Harlan and Emily Butters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She attended Garfield and Franklin schools. On July, 6,1947, she was united in marriage to Harold Lanning. They lived on a farm in the Toddville area for over 60 years. Geraldine was an active member of Toddville Free Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school and vacation bible school teacher for many years and belonged to Open Arms and loved singing for the Lord. She was also a long-time member of Green’s Grove Sewing Circle. Geraldine enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling, sewing and tending to their big garden. She loved serving the Lord and spending time with her family and friends.
Geraldine is survived by two daughters, Judy (Carl) Fields, of Cedar Rapids and Linda (Marvin) Morris of Hudson, Iowa; grandson, Rodney (Melanie) Morris of Alexandria, Va.; granddaughter, Jennifer (James) Yenser of South Windsor, Conn.; and great-grandchildren, Tahlia and Isaac Yenser. She is also survived by two sisters, Emily Hines of Cedar Rapids and Jean Tatro of Clinton, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Neva Lanning of Marion and Shirley Lanning of Alburnett; a brother-in-law, Donald Hein of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 2021; her parents; brothers, Stanley and Rudolph Butters; sisters, Dorothy, Bernice, and Maxine; brothers-in-law, Donald “LaVern” and Richard Lanning and Leonard Miller; and sisters-in-law, Juanita Miller and Betty Hein.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Woodlands and most recently, Compassion Hospice, for the loving care that they gave to Geraldine.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Toddville Free Methodist Church or Meth-Wick Community.
