Irma Ardean Chester, 96, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Troy Mills, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at Garnett Place Assisted Living in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Family will greet friends and family from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Noelridge Christian Church, located at 7111 C Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Gregory Chambers will officiate. Burial will take place at Troy Mills Cemetery in Troy Mills, Iowa.
Irma was born on Jan. 19, 1926, in Troy Mills, Iowa, the daughter of Charles William and Angelia Mae (Andrews) Cook. She graduated from Troy Mills High School and went on to receive her degree from Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. On June 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to Virgil Edsel Chester. She was a School Teacher for all grades in the one-room Country School House on Alice Road. Irma also worked as an Assistant in the Troy Mills Post Office. She was a homemaker all her life. One of the many things Irma was known for was her Christmas candies and goodies. She enjoyed sewing and crafting and spent countless hours volunteering. Irma made receiving and lap blankets for all of the local hospitals. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Irma is survived and lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Jealee Weber and Kim (Kirk) Dighton, both of Troy Mills; three granddaughters, Kellie (Court) Goos of Manchester, Hayley (Jeremy) Cain of Tipton, Iowa, and Gelian (Billy) Curtis of Manchester; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil Chester; three brothers; three sisters; and one son-in-law, Paul Weber.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date.
