Sheryl Annette (Glime) Nieland, 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, with her family by her side.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at First Presbyterian Church in Shellsburg, with the Rev. Brian Reeves officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time, at the church. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg. A memorial fund has been established.
Sheryl was born on June 4, 1954, in Vinton, to Robert and Shirley (Abernathey) Glime. Sheryl graduated from Benton Community High School, with the Class of 1972. She was united in marriage to Robert Nieland on June 29, 1974, at Salem United Methodist Church in Van Horne. Sheryl furthered her education, at Kirkwood Community College. She served many years as the Shellsburg Librarian.
Sheryl was very active at the First Presbyterian Church in Shellsburg, where she was a former elder, served as the Sunday School director and as a teacher for many years. She also found time to volunteer as a 4-H leader. While she had two girls, she also raised five boys through her daycare work.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters, Amber (Cory) Tilley of Urbana and Andrea (Brad) Highberger of Lombard, Ill.; two grandchildren, Ethan Highberger and Carli Highberger; three grand-pups, Bo, Ozzie and Goose; her mother, Shirley Shaw of Belle Plaine; sisters, Cindy (Dick) McBride of Marengo, Sandra Beck of Vinton, Carolyn (Frank) Kohlmeyer of Sumner and Roberta (Jerry) Macauley of Belle Plaine; brother, William Glime of Garrison; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Glime; stepfather, Kenneth Shaw; niece, Brittney Glime; and brother-in-law, Roger Beck.
