Patricia Jean Robey was born Jan. 8, 1938, in Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred and Mary Ann (McSwiggin) Robey. She attended schools in Malcom graduating from Malcom High School in 1956, she then enrolled and later graduated from Mercy School of Nursing in Iowa City in 1959. Pat married William C. Claeys on Oct. 29, 1960, in Brooklyn, Iowa. The couple made their home in Iowa City, where they raised their family and Pat worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital with her career spanning over 40 years before her retirement.
She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, the Red Hat Society, the Investment Club, enjoyed getting together with former nursing school classmates and reading at Mark Twain Elementary School in the Rock & Read program. But nothing was more important than family, especially when the grandchildren came along and then again when the great-grandchildren were born. Nothing brought a bigger smile to her face than to be with her family and her beloved dogs!
Her family includes two sons, Jim Claeys (Teresa) and Joe Claeys (Ellen); granddaughters, Jennifer Weig (Nick), Janet Haag (Aaron) and Jessica Williams (Jason); great-grandchildren, Audrey, Susie, Charlotte, Braydon and Stella; brother, Tom Robey (Pat); and sister, Sarah Hall (David).
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, John Robey (Karen); and special friend, Phil Rocca.
