It's been a quiet year for severe weather in Eastern Iowa, but KCRG-TV9 meteorologists say that could change this weekend.
First Alert Storm Team meteorologist Kaj O'Mara says Saturday is shaping up to be rainy, with a chance for severe weather, especially in the period from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
Two rounds of rain are possible Saturday, O'Mara said. The first is expected in the late overnight hours, with the second starting around 3 p.m. Saturday. The later round still has the potential to turn severe in our area, with wind being the main issue, but the risk of tornadoes is likely low, O'Mara said. In general, 1 to 2 inches of rainfall are likely for the area by the time the system pushes away by Sunday morning.
By Sunday afternoon, skies should be partly cloudy with highs into the 60s, O'Mara said.
