Roseann Hovey, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, at Benton House of Tiffany Springs in Kansas City, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Atkins, with the Rev. Doug Woltemath officiating. Interment will be held at St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Atkins. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, also at the church.
Roseann was born on Nov. 26, 1939, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the daughter of Arnold and Muriel (McCulla) Roudabush. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School, with the Class of 1957. On June 17, 1961, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Lyle Hovey at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. In 1974, Roseann had the honor of being Atkins’ founding librarian. She would later go on to be employed by United Fire and Casualty for more than 20 years.
Roseann enjoyed being active at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, participating in various groups over the years, including Nimble Fingers Sewing Group (quilting); Ladies’ Society and Choir. She enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards and, most of all, spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Karen Hovey (partner Leonard King) of San Diego, Calif., and Rich (Lisa) Hovey of Kansas City, Mo., and their children, Logan and Hannah; step-grandchildren, Jessica King of New York, N.Y., and Matthew King of San Diego; her brother, Bill Roudabush of Cedar Rapids; sister, Judy (Jack) Richards of Elizabeth City, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ken, in 2017; her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Philip and Hannah Hovey; and an infant sister, Beverly.
