John L. Brody, 58, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, at his home in Shellsburg following a sudden illness.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022, from 2 until 6 p.m. at Wildcat Country Club in Shellsburg. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
John was born on Jan. 5, 1964, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton, the son of Gary and Monika (Minzel) Brody. He graduated from Urbana High School, with the class of 1982. John was united in marriage to Charlene Fiebelkorn, on Dec. 4, 2004, in Palo, Iowa.
John was employed at Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids.
John loved being a husband, and a dad to Kayla and Tori. A great step-dad to Kurtis and Kyle. And the best grandpa ever to Korbin and Silas. He was a friend to everyone he met. He loved planning get togethers at his house for everyone. He brightened every room he entered. John was the kindest, quietest man with the biggest heart. He would stop to help anyone at any time, whether he knew you or not. John’s most favorite thing was planning our annual family 4th of July vacation to Stony Lake in Minnesota, where he met many friends. He was known for his jet boat and spraying people. He also enjoyed boating on the Cedar River on weekends, fishing when possible. His newest hobby was side by siding with dear friends. Our family will miss John dearly. He was our family rock…he was so loved by all of us…our hearts are broken.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene; daughters, Kayla (Justin) Stander and Tori Brody; stepsons, Kyle Beatty and Kurtis Beatty, all of Shellsburg; two grandsons, Korbin Beatty and Silas Speckner; his mother, Monika Brody of Shellsburg; father, Gary Brody of Urbana; mother, and father in-law, Tom and Wilma Busenbark of Shellsburg; brother, Herbert Bankel of Berlin, Germany; and niece and nephews, Harold Bankel of Berlin, Germany, Madison Perea of Webster City, Iowa, and Colton Draker of Palo.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
