Cedar Rapids pursuit ends with man's arrest

Bret A. Scheidt, 40, faces multiple charges after a pursuit with Cedar Rapids police ended in his arrest early Tuesday.
At approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday, police attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle displaying stolen plates. The vehicle did not stop and sped away from officers, traveling south on 19th Street NE. The driver lost control of the vehicle in the 300 block of 19th Street SE, striking a northbound vehicle. The suspect then turned his vehicle onto Ridgewood Terrace SE, where he struck two parked cars.
Scheidt was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.
The driver of the vehicle Scheidt struck on 19th Street NE was removed from his vehicle and transported to the hospital. He is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Scheidt was arrested on suspicion of numerous charges, including eluding, hit and run causing injury, OWI, driving while barred, possession of meth, and possession of precursors with intent to manufacture meth. He was also arrested on warrants for possession of precursors with intent to manufacture meth, possession of a controlled Substance (penalty enhanced) and driving while barred.
