Byron Russel Morehead, 98, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2022, in The Villages of Marion. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until service time. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Monica (Gary) Schroeder of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son, Russ (Beverly) Morehead of Overland Park, Kan.; five grandchildren, Romy Brown, Mia Schroeder, Adam Morehead, Jake Schroeder and Mark Schroeder; and six great-grandchildren, Caitlin Schroeder, Addison Schroeder, Audrey Morehead, Celeste Morehead, Isaac Brown and Raelee Schroeder; and a sister, Mary Squires of Monticello, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Audrey Morehead; three brothers, William, John and Richard Morehead; and a sister, Rose Davis.
Byron was born Nov. 10, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Victor and Gertrude (Kimball) Morehead. He married Audrey J. Ballou on Nov. 27, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Byron was a machinist for Rockwell Collins. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Yorktown.
