Gary Snetselaar, 72, of Iowa City, passed away on Nov. 22, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at New Life Community Church in Coralville. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m.
Gary was born on May 6, 1950, in Des Moines to Barney and Velma (Fees) Snetselaar. On June 10, 1970, Gary married Linda Van Wyk and to this union, three children were born.
Following graduation from Prairie City High School, Gary attended Iowa State University and obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. He started his career at the auto parts manufacturer, Sheller Globe. Gary then went on to work at Oral-B for a few years before retiring from Johnson County zoning.
In his spare time, Gary loved working with his hands. His early years never saw him far from a kart racing track or an engine in some state of disassembly, while his later years were spent woodworking in his home shop. As a “Man of the World,” he loved to travel and covered a lot of miles, camera always in hand. Above all, Gary was a man of great passions. He fiercely loved Formula 1 racing, Cape Cod, and more than anything else in the world, his family.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Linda; sons, Tyler (Samantha) Snetselaar, Jordan (Allison) Snetselaar and Dan Snetselaar (Andrea Seurer); grandchildren, Ryker, Cameron, Asher and Owen Snetselaar; as well as his sister, Jo Ellen (Mike) Vandelune. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to New Life Community Church and online condolences may be shared at www.lensingfuneral.com.
