Edward Stephen Vesely, 83, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2022, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama, with Pastor Kerry Carson and Pastor Tom Bower officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Edward was born on May 5, 1939, in Toledo, Iowa, the son of Harold and Bess (Cecak) Vesely. He graduated from Toledo High School in 1957. On Oct. 25, 1959, he was united in marriage to Beverly McAteer at the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo. Edward worked for Asplundh Tree Experts for twenty-four years and then for Tama County Secondary Roads for 20 years, retiring in 2004. He was a member of the CSA Lodge in Vining for eighty-two years. Ed enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Czech Village Museum in Cedar Rapids prior to the flood in 2008. In his younger years, he coached Little League Baseball.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Beverly of Toledo; his children, Steve (Sherri) Vesely of Toledo, Laura (Steve) Hannam of Waukee and Bob (Kelly) Vesely of Marion; five grandchildren, Nick and Elizabeth Vesely, Kayla Vesely, Elena and Bob Milde; and one great-granddaughter, Claudia Vesely-Chenet; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Jeanette Young and Joanne Yuska; and one brother, Anthony Vesely.
A memorial fund will be established.
