CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids school bus driver was ticketed Monday after police said he caused an accident.
Officers responded around 9 a.m. to the two-vehicle accident near the corner of Edgewood and Ellis roads NW. Bus driver Paul Huber, 74, of Cedar Rapids, was westbound on Ellis when he attempted to turn into a parking lot at the Cedar Rapids school district's Educational Leadership and Support Center, and went into the path of an oncoming sport-utility vehicle, according to a police report.
Huber was returning from his morning route and no students were on the bus at the time of the crash, officials said. The driver of the SUV, Kimberly Kleckner, 55, of Cedar Rapids, had minor injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center, police said. Huber was not hurt.
Officers cited Huber for failure to yield. He has no other traffic citations in Iowa, according to online court records.
Spokeswoman Marcia Hughes said the district is investigating the incident and follows state law regarding post-accident drug/alcohol testing. Huber was taken off his route while the investigation continues, which is standard procedure.
