Connie Baumert
Marion
Connie Baumert, 79, of Marion, went soaring into the heavens on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2022, in peace and without pain. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, where a visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Connie was born on Jan. 19, 1943, in Thornburg, Iowa, the daughter of Laymon and Marjorie (Baughman) Coble. After graduating the Thornburg-What Cheer High School in 1962, Connie worked at Turner Microphone in Cedar Rapids. She was united in marriage later that year to Larry D. Baumert at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Shelley, Marjean “Jeannie,” Brian “Scott” and LeAnn.
Connie helped care for over 70 local area children in her 30-year tenure, providing in-home childcare. After retiring, she spent her time scrapbooking, learning family history, reading, sewing, including quilt-making, refinishing antique furniture and gardening. Her plants and flowers brought her so much joy.
Connie loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to travel and looked forward to her annual fall trip in October to look at the seasonal foliage. Connie enjoyed the community, meeting new neighbors and encouraged participation in the annual block garage sale.
Connie’s passion was her family. She went to great lengths to ensure each of them were encouraged and supported.
Connie is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, Larry Baumert of Marion; four children, Shelley Baumert of Cedar Rapids, Marjean (Joseph) Brasic of Carrollton, Texas, Brian “Scott” Baumert, and LeAnn (Brian) Williams of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Breanna and Luke; and eight great-grandchildren, Jordynn, Jaydynn, Jamari, Jasyia, Leondrie “Leo,” Legend, Cali and Cori.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Geraldine Taschner and Mary DeWitt; and grandson, Adam Baumert.
