James Allan Rotter Sr., 82, of Walford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, at Mercy Hallmar. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, located at 8100 Roncalli Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at St. John XXIII Catholic Church. Private family burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.
James was born March 6, 1940, in Walford, the son of Bill and Helen (Schulte) Rotter. He graduated from Walford High School, class of 1958. James was united in marriage to Linda Schmidt on Sept. 27, 1960, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Watkins. He worked at Link-Belt Speeder/FMC for over 20 years as a supervisor on the hydraulic crane line. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with his friends and family.
James is survived by his wife, Linda; five children, Jill (Jim) Harper, Jim (Jenny) Rotter Jr., Julie (Kent) Statler, Dr. Janet (Charlie) Branchaw and Jason (Heather) Rotter; 14 grandchildren, Brad, Eric, Nicole, Ashley, Nathan, Emilie, Jessica, Ben, Joshua, Evelyn, Grace, Lila, Matthew and Marie; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Schulte and Phyllis Marak; sister-in-law, Norma Schultz; and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Donna Zabokrtsky and Mary Stagg; and grandson, Troy Harper.
