AMES, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Department of Transportation says precipitation is instantly freezing to windshields and roadways, making for slick travel conditions.
The department said in a news release Sunday morning that a mix of drizzle and heavy rain is moving through the state.
It also said that crews are trying to de-ice and sand roads, bridges and ramps.
The department says it's best to postpone travel if possible until the front moves out.
A freezing rain advisory has been issued for most of Iowa, and the northeast part of the state is under a winter weather warning.
