Two people were hospitalized after a fire Sunday night at the Shamrock Condominiums, 324 Jacolyn Dr. SW.
The fire started around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters could see thick black smoke from several blocks away and arrived on scene at the two-story, 15-unit condominium complex to find fire pushing out of a ground level apartment window on the back side of the dwelling.
Firefighters also found two victims outside of the building who needed medical attention.
One of the victims was a 27-year-old man who had suffered smoke inhalation and possible burns. Another victim, a 46-year-old woman, appeared to have a medical condition that was aggravated by the fire. The woman was in another apartment and evacuated when several people began knocking on condominium doors to alert residents.
It appears that 17 people were evacuated from the 15 units at Shamrock Condominiums, including the two patients. Both victims' injuries are reportedly non-life threatening.
The Red Cross is assisting two displaced occupants of the condominium comple3x. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
