CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Several days of heavy rain are not only putting a damper on Memorial Day weekend activities, but also causing flood concerns in eastern and central Iowa.
Only a month or so removed from concerns about a long-running drought, many rivers are now overflowing their banks.
The National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings in parts of the KCRG-TV9 viewing area. Parts of Jasper County received more than six inches of rain this weekend. Officers report flooding on Highway 6 and Illinois Avenue in Kellogg, and also on Northfield Drive. One house was surrounded by water.
A flash flood watch remains in effect for a large part of Iowa, including the Des Moines area, for the possibility of flooding. Thunderstorms with heavy rain are predicted to continue Sunday morning, especially north and east of Des Moines.
