Cheryl Ann Ranes, 74, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2022, at Silver Ridge Healthcare Center in Las Vegas, Nev., after a long illness.
She was born in Delhi, Iowa, on June 27, 1948, the daughter of John and Gloria (Billmeyer) Ranes.
Cheryl is survived by her former husband, Samuel Dempster (82) of Cedar Rapids; and their son, Cale Dempster, (53) of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She is also survived by a brother, John Morris Ranes and wife Karen of Clearwater, Fla.; aunt, Lois Workman and two cousins, Becky Donaldson and Debbie Taylor, all of Casselberry, Fla; and her uncle, Jim Billmeyer, his son, Morey and family live in Monticello, Iowa.
From 1968 until 1994, Cheryl lived in Cedar Rapids. Then in 1994 until 2004, she lived in Jerusalem, Israel, becoming a dual American-Israeli citizen. She moved back to America in 2004 living near family in Orlando, Fla., until 2011 when she moved to Las Vegas to be close to her son who was living there at the time.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Steven Ranes, all from Marion, Iowa.
Her ashes will be brought back to Iowa and laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Delhi, Iowa, near her parents' burial plot. A small graveside service will be held. Anyone interested in attending can request details or simply send condolences to cale.dempster@gmail.com.
